I Ignored His Emails For 2 Years O_O

A few years ago, there was a creator whose emails kept landing in my inbox, and I completely ignored them.

He talked about solopreneurship, how to grow your income while staying small, without hiring a team.

His whole thing is about trying not to scale too much, working, but not at the cost of freedom and flexibility.

I'd occasionally open them every 2 months, but overall, I'd just delete them.

I should have unsubscribed and saved us all time, but something about his emails... I dunno....

When I DID read them, they had a nugget of wisdom, a story I learned.

So, I just kept deleting them.

Anyway, fast forward to the peak postpartum period (3 months post baby ), where I felt rage at anything and anyone mentioning the word 'hustle'.

I unfollowed and muted all IG accounts relating to 'hustle', ' grind', and 'goals'.

I wanted to throw sharp objects at bros with no kids or responsibilities, making videos from a treehouse in Costa Rica, after 8 hours of sleep, waking up at 5 am to meditate at the beach, then scootering back to their treehouse, microdosing on magic mushrooms, saying ' if you REALLY wanted it, you would MAKE TIME, you don't want it ENOUGH'.

'F**k off back to your treehouse... BRO,' I thought, with my little one hanging off my cracked bleeding nips, surviving on zero sleep and a raw, open C-section wound.

They made me feel angry. I was overwhelmed, exhausted, and uncertain how I was going to work at all with a baby

I'd like to add that this was a 100% a ME problem. I was the issue, not them!

There was nothing wrong with their content or the creator's email content

And I ignored his emails almost every time, not because I didn’t like him or his content was bad.

It just didn’t feel relevant to me at the time.

Then something changed, and now I am OBSESSED O_O

Before I explain what happened, here's a quick break from our sponsor today

Suddenly, I can't get enough of his emails, his content, anything he sells.

I eagerly await his weekly email (and wonder why he only emails once a week? Why can't he email 2 or 3 times a week??)

I've even tried to buy the old courses that he's not selling anymore (he said no, booooo!)

So, what changed?

My priorities have shifted, the things I was working on have changed, and what I need has fundamentally changed.

2-3 years ago, I was ALL about scaling profit and my business FAST

I could come up with an idea and implement it the same day, while working for the next 10 hours uninterrupted

The thought of not scaling, not hiring, or not growing my business was unthinkable

But now.... I want and NEED things to be calm, steady, and for profits to tick along while I manage the storm and chaos of early motherhood (can you believe she's only 14 months? sweet little lump)

I know it may not be forever, but now, I want to be a solopreneur, with simple systems for repeatable, steady income

So now I open ALL his emails.

He's the same person with the same writing style and probably even similar ideas.

The only difference was me.

That experience made me rethink something.

When people don’t open your emails… it’s easy to take it personally.

You assume:

They’re not interested, or they don’t like your content, or you’re doing something wrong?

(I know I do! I totally check the unsubscribe names and emails, do I know them, why did they leave? O_O )

But more often than not, it’s none of those things.

It’s timing.

People are busy.

They’re distracted.

They’re focused on something else entirely.

Or they’re simply not at the stage where your content is relevant to them yet.

And then, one day, they are. (just like how I was)

That’s what I’ve seen, both as a reader and as someone who writes regularly.

There are people who have followed along quietly for months.

Sometimes years.

Then suddenly, they reply.
They engage.
They buy.

Nothing changed overnight.

Except for their timing.

Which is why consistency matters more than perfection.

Not every email needs to perform, and not every piece of content needs to land.

Because you’re not writing for everyone, all the time.

You’re writing for the right person, at the right moment.

And you don’t get to control when that moment happens.

You just need to be there when it does.

That’s something I remind myself of often.

Especially on the days when it feels like no one is reading. (so if you've got this far, THANK YOU for reading my emails!)

So if you’ve been feeling discouraged…

Don’t stop.

You might be exactly what someone needs.

Just not yet.

I’m curious…

Have you ever gone back to someone’s content after ignoring it for a while?

Do you feel no one will read your emails?

Reply and tell me.

Thanks for reading

Hello, hello! I'm trying something new today. Instead of sitting at my desk typing this email, I'm dictating it while cutting out little paper goodies for the October edition of my Sparkles of Joy snail mail club. This month's theme is Beating the Burnout Blues, and it's a topic that's particularly close to my heart. I think we sometimes associate burnout exclusively with work, but burnout can creep into so many different areas of our lives. It can stem from caregiving responsibilities,...

One day you might want to earn a little income outside your main job Or maybe you are SICK of your colleague named Tristan and your insufferable boss and wish you could quit on the spot, so Tristan can stop complaining about his lovely wife and leave you alone Or maybe... you just want the soft life along with soft Silkie hens (incredible creatures with funky feathers; they look like this O_O) and the only stressful thing about your day is whether to have pancakes or French toast for...

I got my first hate comment on my @sparklesofjoy IG account! Have I made it, maa? I'll tell you about it in a sec and how to deal with hate comments But first, in the last week, I've been working hard on my snail mail for September This month's theme is all about saving and investing- basically, how to grow your money safely I've decided to stop trying to be like all the other arty mail clubs and lean into real topics that my community has always been interested in. Topics I am personally...
