Is blogging even worth it anymore?

So this week, an email subscriber asked me this exact question.

And I'll be honest with you - after everything Google has pulled with these updates, I caught myself asking the same thing. Late at night, staring at my traffic graphs, wondering if I'd been wasting my time all these years. O_O

Should I jack it all in and go back to corporate? Is it even worth the effort anymore?

But here's where I landed, and I mean this: absolutely, blogging is still worth it.

What's changed is the definition of blogging and HOW you blog. The way you blog, the way you drive traffic, the way you make money from it - all of it looks different now. And I think...harder but WAY better

Let's be real about one thing first.

The old-school definition of blogging- chase SEO keywords, rank on Google, slap ads on your site, collect ad revenue -that model is dead. Gone. AI overviews and zero-click searches finished it off, and no amount of "just publish more content" is bringing it back.

We all rode on that lucrative, easy gravy train; it was a good time!

But here's what nobody's telling you: while that door was slamming shut, so many others have swung wide open:

Affiliate marketing? Still thriving. People still want honest recommendations from someone they trust before they buy. That's never going away.

Sponsored posts? Thriving. I literally just got an offer of USD 250 yesterday, for a small mention that would take me 10 minutes. Brands still want to reach real, engaged audiences - and they'll pay for it.

Facebook groups? Thriving, and monetizing them is too. Some of the smartest bloggers I know are building engaged groups and turning them into real income. (I keep saying I want to learn and look into this, it's still on my list! )

Digital products? Absolutely thriving. Courses, templates, ebooks, printables -your blog readers are the warmest buyers you'll ever have. If you can learn and master the skill of creating and selling digital products... you will never have to worry about money again. It's an easy way to package your knowledge and skills.

Communities and memberships? Thriving like never before. People are craving connection and closer access, and they'll happily pay for it. In the world of AI, people want to bypass the generic crap and engage with humans.

I also hear about people thriving on Substack, which sounds really interesting! The opportunities are endless.

See the pattern? Every single one of these is built on trust, not traffic. And that's exactly what a blog builds better than any other platform.

Now — if all of this sounds exhausting and like a lot of hard work... you're right. It is.

But you know what else is hard work? A 9-5 with a commute, building someone else's dream instead of your own.

Pick your hard.

And please, hear me on this: take breaks. Don't put so much pressure on yourself to make it work RIGHT NOW that you end up squeezing all the joy out of it. Let the joy come back.

Do whatever it takes to ease that pressure, even if it means getting a job to pay your bills and ease the financial pressure!

That's actually why I started my Snail Mail Club -I needed to get my passion for writing and creativity back. No algorithms or analytics, just words on paper going to real people.

And it worked. It reminded me why I fell in love with writing in the first place!

And it's become so much more than that. Every month, I'll be sharing new skills and lessons inside the Snail Mail Club - real, practical ways to thrive as a blogger, business owner, and creator in this new landscape.

Think of it as mentorship you can hold in your hands, delivered straight to your mailbox.

For example, in July, the theme is The Tide of Change, and I'll be sharing a video in my snail mail plus a book that helped me navigate and thrive in a changing landscape :)

If you've been craving something slower, more intentional, and genuinely useful, this is it.

So do whatever it takes to keep going. Pivot, rest, experiment, start something weird and small that makes you happy again.

Because here's the one thing I know for sure: quitting is the only guaranteed way to fail.

Now I want to hear from you.

Which of these models are you most curious about - affiliate marketing, sponsored posts, physical products, social media, digital products, or memberships?

Hit reply and tell me. I read every single email, and your answer will shape what I write next.

Thanks for reading

One Month In: Real Lessons From Starting My Snail Mail Club It's been just over a month since I announced my new creative business- a snail mail club! (If you missed it, you can read all about it here: Sparkles of Joy Club) One month in, I wanted to share some honest lessons, reflections, and tips that have helped me, in case you're thinking about starting something of your own, or you're right there in the messy beginning, too? 1. Expect to suck. A lot. You will second-guess everything -...

Hi there, If you are like me when I started, trying to figure out all the 'admin' you need to do before you actually start your business might actually put you off starting entirely! Bank accounts, tax, legal compliance! O_OMost online business owners think about legal compliance the same way they think about going to the dentist. They know they should, they keep meaning to, and they assume they'll deal with it before anything goes wrong. The problem is that legal blind spots don't announce...

I recently talked about how 3 months after having a baby, I was allergic to the word 'hustle' and bros living in tree houses in Costa Rica's microdosing on magic mushrooms... You can read about it here if you missed it I realize now, I was burnt out and I lost all motivation for work (and life actually, not to sound dramatic) I would wake up, tired, and have no desire to do anything. Nothing seemed to bring me excitement anymore. It felt pretty bleak :( I started to question if I should burn...
